Swift Services has years of experience helping customers in the Grand Strand area and we are ready to help 24/7.
The beautiful Conway area is known for its wonderful architecture featuring many older homes with unique designs unlike anywhere else along the Grand Strand. However, the problem with older homes is that their HVAC systems may also be outdated. With South Carolina scorching summers a top notch working AC unit is one of the key features of any household.
If you are a long-time resident of Conway or if you're new to our neighborhood you may be wondering about the status of your air conditioning system. You can give us a call today at 843-236-9060 and we will be happy to evaluate your system.
If you're trying to decide what can be wrong with your HVAC system and how to proceed, read some of the tips below from our experts at Swift Services.
How old is the unit?
As with any appliance, the older it gets the higher the chance of breakdown. Most air conditioning units are designed to last anywhere from 10 to 20 years. Depending on the brand and maintenance the problems may start when the system is only 10 years old. If visits from your air conditioning repair professional become more and more frequent you might want to consider getting a new unit.
Industry experts have a simple way to calculate the cost of repair vs. replacement. What they do is multiply the cost of repair by the age of a unit. For example, if the cost of repair was $250 and the unit is 10 years old the result would be $2,500. That means the repair of the unit is justified if it's below $5,000 (an average cost of a new unit). A result over $5,000 would signify you may be better off investing in a new unit.
Is it energy efficient?
Many homeowners make a mistake by assuming they save a lot of money since they've kept the same AC unit for 15 years. In reality, if you compare your energy bills over the years you may discover that you've been paying more each year for electricity. If that's the case you should consider replacing the old AC unit in the near future.
Many of our customers are quite often astonished at how much their electric bill dropped after replacing their air conditioning unit. With the constantly advancing technology, the ENERGY STAR HVAC equipment today is way more energy efficient than elements produced 10 or 15 years ago.
Would replacing just a part of the system solve the problem?
Even if your Conway air conditioning unit is an older model it may not necessarily mean you should get a new one as soon as you realize something doesn't work right. If your unit doesn't keep up with cooling down your house your HVAC unit may not be the one to blame. Many times, especially in older homes, there are big air leaks and possibly a damaged duct system which needs to be fixed. You should call your ac and heating professional to help you evaluate the real source of the problem.

Found broken wire in wire nut on safety switch. Ran system system is cooling and condensating. Under wty no diag fee.
Reprogrammed thermostat to have schedule set schedule to home owner needs and went over thermostat operation.
Swift services responded to a service call with reports of no cooling from a newly installed package unit heat pump. The homeowners described the system seemingly heating the home rather than cooling it while in “Cool†mode at the thermostat. Through my troubleshooting process I discovered that the thermostat was not being given a command to engage the reversing valve, which for the heat pump determines the “Cool†mode. I replaced the defective thermostat, programmed it accordingly, and resumed desired operation from the unit.
Performed bronze tune up on a Ruud split system heat pump. Tested a Delta T of -10 degrees. Cleaned Evaporator and Condenser coils. Cleared primary drain line. Had 243psi on high side, with 6 degrees of sub cooling. The capacitor tested in range of 40/5. Filter needs to be changed, homeowner is going to replace today.
Installed 3 ton 14 SEER Goodman split system and new T6 thermostat
Completed tune up. Installed stay clean strip. Adjusted charge to proper superheat. Everything working properly at this time.
Replaced thermostat and verified operation.
Checked upstairs air handler, confirmed evap coil is leaking. System is a 1998 R22 system, cannot repair since we will not have refrigerant to put back in system. At this age, system just needs replaced. Also found ductwork pulled loose in electrical closet. Will send quotes to replace system and repair ductwork.
Preformed prepaid maintenance on a Goodman straight ac and gas furnace with case coil. Checked pressures and checked amp draws cleaned coils and cleaned drain line. Added algae tabs to drain pan for drain line prevention. Checked wiring connections and checked duct work. All systematic components are working properly at this time. Recommended blue tube kit for unit due to growth forming on evaporator coil. Homeowners will consider it and give us a call if they decide to have one installed.
Inspected equipment and found low on refrigerant. Cased coil has a leak and needs replaced.
Install light in kitchen over sink.
Found grossly over charged removed 3 lbs from system got 28 degrees subcoiling in heat mode system no longer making noise on start up and shut down.
System operating normally at this time tuneup complete
Found system with little refridgerant in it the leak is on the capillaries at the compressor compartment. Quoted applicable repair.
Swift Services came out to perform the Bronze Member Tune Up included with the installation of the new split system heat pump for the home. During the maintenance process I made certain adjustments to improve performance of the equipment but ultimately found the heating could have been better in terms of temperature rise. After checking everything at the air handler I found refrigerant levels outside were maybe slightly lower than desired and therefore I investigated inside the condenser. I found a section of the service port or “common suction line†that was rubbing against the reversing valve (as photographed) and had a small refrigerant leak. After a discussion with the homeowner he is not going to have this repair done at this time. I also added an additional strap and mastic to the return because it was drooping. I sent the homeowner the estimate if/when they’d like the repair made.
Checked unit, found completely empty of refrigerant. Will need to return tomorrow to pressure test and find leak.
Performed the bronze tune up on a Lennox split system heat pump. Delta T was approximately -21. Cleaned evaporator and condenser coil. Waxed outdoor unit and got an amp draw on the capacitor. Refrigerant levels are good at this time. Recommended a UV light to the air handler because of growth on the door panel. Also cleared drain line.
Installed stat that never got installed from install.
Upon arrival I greeted the customer and started my work. Soon into my investigation I found that there was a leak on the true suction line, where are the true suction line goes into the suction line. (See photo) after sending down and praising the whole I then proceeded to perform a pressure test and pull a deep vacuum on the system. After that I then charge the system up with 410A to manufacturing specifications. System is operating normally at this time. We are only charging this customer for refrigerant per Carl because this has been a recurring issue.
Upon arrival I agree to the customer and starting my work. I soon found that the blower board inside the air handler had been completely fried. After verifying the price with the office, The customer has decided to go ahead and replace the blower board and sign up for the maintenance agreement. He’s also requested that a comfort adviser be dispatched to his home in order to give him an estimate on a new system. This system is operating normally at this time.
System operating normally at this time tuneup complete.
Completed tune up and changed the Pure Air components, including the MERV 16 Media filter and the UV light system.
Installed breakers. Passed inspection.
Upon arrival I greeted the customer and started my work. customer was complaining of an odor coming from the ventilation system. Upon further investigation I have concluded that she has smelly sock syndrome in her unit. After my discovery I gave the customer two options. First option is to install UV light and spray the coil with coil cleaner. The second option is to replace the evaporator coil altogether. After giving the homeowner these two options she chose to do neither one, and instead is going to call the builder of this new home to see what he can do. System is operating normally at this time. I did spray the coil with evaporator coil cleaner.
