Apart from assisting our customers with heating and cooling system repairs we can also help you with getting your home more energy efficient and/or improve the quality of the air inside your home. Many homeowners underestimate the importance of air quality inside their households. Unfortunately, poor air quality can lead to many illnesses and a variety of health problems. Do you suffer from constant headaches? Are you tired often? Do you and your family experience frequent colds throughout the year? If the answer is yes there might be a problem with air quality in your house.
Poor air quality in your home not only affects your health but it can also cause mold growth, unpleasant smells and an elevated level of humidity inside. If you observe any of these issues you should contact a professional Surfside Beach air conditioning and heating contractor immediately.
One of the best ways to assure the air inside your house is healthy and clean is by utilizing professional HVAC system maintenance. Many homeowners fail to maintain their air conditioning systems and call our team at Swift Services when a component breaks or doesn't operate as it should.
When you schedule system maintenance our Surfside Beach air conditioning heating contractors will conduct a thorough inspection of the HVAC system. The inspection includes checking for any leaks, such as water leaks which may cause mold, or a refrigerant leak which is dangerous and may damage the whole system. During the checkup a technician also looks for any broken, and/or dirty elements, which may affect the humidity level inside your house leading to poor air quality. Last but not least, during the maintenance call, a technician changes the air filter (if necessary) to a HEPA filter which is designed to improve the air quality inside your home.
You don't always need to call a professional Surfside Beach air conditioning heating contractor to assist you with your HVAC system. There are many things a homeowner can do to keep the air in their house safe and clean.
You may hate cleaning up but it is really important to regularly clean up your home to keep you and your family safe. Dust and other particles love to settle everywhere especially in difficult to reach places. You should vacuum the floors and areas around furniture, such as under couches and behind dressers, at least twice a month. High traffic areas, such as a hallway, should be vacuumed several times during the week. Don't forget to empty your vacuum cleaner after you're done to make sure it works efficiently!
Quite often a homeowner can improve the air quality indoors by controlling the source of pollution inside. Activities such as painting, paint stripping or cooking can add a lot of pollutants into the air. Opening windows and doors while engaged in any of the activities above can push a lot of these contaminants outside and bring the fresh air into the house. Unless, of course, you live in a highly polluted area then you may consider different whole-house ventilation system options.
Smoking is a well-known cause of illnesses and death, and it is also one of the worst pollutants when it comes to indoor air quality. By smoking inside your house you not only damage your own health but you put everyone else who lives with you at risk. Studies prove that secondhand smoke can cause asthma, ear infection and cancer in children, to name a few. Therefore, if you can't kick the habit, at least go outside before you light that cigarette.
Living in South Carolina we know all about outdoor humidity and suffer through it every year especially during the summer months. However, a homeowner can control the humidity inside their homes. High levels of indoor humidity attract the growth of mold and the presence of dust mites.
The humidity level inside your house should be between 30 and 50 percent. You can purchase a special moisture gauge to check the levels of humidity. If the level is too high and it's not summer you should open the windows and let in some cool breeze. If it's hot outside close all your windows and doors and lower the temperature on your air conditioner. You can also buy a vaporizer or a humidifier to add more moisture to the air when necessary, especially during cold weather months.
If you have any questions about indoor air quality or HVAC system maintenance, contact Swift Services, your local Surfside Beach air conditioning and heating contractors. We will get back to you within 24 hours! Give us a call at 843-236-9060 or send us a message.
